Orvis helios 412/25/2023 ![]() ![]() As for exchanging the rods, you didnt exchange them, Ronnie Glass did after my mate who is mates with him asked him as a favour. ![]() As for the weight of the midflex vs tipflex, the difference in swingweight between the two models in virtually nothing.Ĭlick to expand.Ben, in my posts when I have slated the casting action of the tip flex model? I have said its a good casting tool, I have slated the build quality of the rod, which in my opinion was *****. I can honestly say that I have not had a problem playing fish with any of my helios rods nor with my TCR 590 which is a fair bit stiffer and faster than a Helios tipflex. When expressing your opinion it would probably be fair to state that you cast the rod, bought it and then decided you did not like it. Details Accurate fly rod performs in a variety of environments and scenarios Matte midnight blank helps reduce glare for a more stealthy finish Anodized. The line you cast on the rod was a wonderline and I seem to remember you liked that at the time but have since given them a bit of a rough review here too. A short while later you complained you did not like it and even though it was used I bent over backwards to get a midflex sorted out for you it was exchanged and at a time when the rods were in very short supply. I would say though, that for the cost of the rod, I would expect the whippings to be better and the epoxy better finished.ĭid you not cast the Helios 905 tiplex and a Z axis with me at a tackle shop, side by side? From what I remember you thought the Helios was far superior and that is the rod you bought, after casting it. ![]() I get the impression the first 9 weight i used was a pre-preproduction model as other 9 weights i have seen since are finished well. The line on it was not the best and the wind was swirling.but again, the finish was good. Effortless casts.when i got my timing right!.but I still felt a little "remote" from the casting experience. Third one was a 5 weight last weekend.again over grass. Loved it, but still felt I was not getting the best from it. Better rings (Nanolites) and a better size, whipping flawless etc etc. Second one i tried was a 10 weight at the Scone Game Fair. Nice casting rod with a 9 weight WF saltwater line The Helios 4 will no doubt take its place in line with its superlative brothers before it. Available in four-piece sections, these fly rods are excellent for traveling anglers heading to their favorite saltwater destinations. Liked it but thought the finish was ****, the rings far too small for esentially a long distance rod, whipping exposing the ring feet etc etc. RedRabbitRunner said: Shawn Combs is a fine gentleman and legend in the making. The first Helios i tried (over grass) was a 9 weight. ![]()
